There’s only one union dedicated to operational employees working the Retained Duty System (On-Call), the Fire and Rescue Services Association (FRSA). We are a member led, non-political organisation with a no-strike constitution.

We are not just here for when things go wrong but have a long term aim to advance the On-Call agenda by engaging with all the fire service stakeholders at all levels providing solutions to modern day issues. Just like our members, we are on call 24 hours a days, 365 days a year fighting your corner.

Nobody understands the RDS better than the FRSA. Our Executive Officers are or have been On-Call firefighters themselves who meet throughout the year.

Members of the Executive will represent the FRSA at national level on such matters as Pensions, Health and Safety, Operational Guidance etc. The FRSA also regularly meets with the Government Ministers, local Fire Authorities and the National Employers.

This means that the needs and aspirations of frontline RDS personnel are aired at the highest level.

Full membership of the Association is granted to any serving member of a fire and rescue service who supports the values and objectives of the FRSA. The principle of which is that the Association conducts its business using a no-strike policy, remains an independent trade union with no political affiliation and uses the power of argument rather than the argument of power.

These values have been in place for over 44 years, improving members’ local terms and conditions, achieving success at employment tribunals and medical appeals, personal injury claims and ill-health and injury pensions in the process.

The membership subscription rate for On-Call personnel is currently £9.50 per month and includes exclusive access to our Accidental Injury, Illness and Death Insurance Scheme (£4.99 per month) and our ‘Rewards’ package which provides discounted products and services to members.
