Dear Colleagues

You will no doubt be aware that the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Lorne Green has put together a business case for taking over Governance of Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS).

The Norfolk PCC is now undertaking a period of consultation regarding the proposal.

As a major stakeholder in the Fire and Rescue Service, the Association intends to form an evidence based view on the proposal and provide a formal written response. As a member-led organisation it is vital that we obtain your views on the future governance of the service.

Can I therefore request that you become familiar with the consultation document (available below) before forming a view and provide your thoughts to the Association (via contact us) which will be used collectively as part of our formal consultation response.

It is also important to make you aware that Norfolk County Council (NCC) has published its own document to argue for the status-quo (i.e. for NCC to retain governance of NFRS). We would suggest that you digest the contents of this document also.

While we acknowledge that to make an informed view, a great deal of reading is required, it does relate to the future direction of the service and is likely to have an impact on your career as a firefighter, so your view will be invaluable.

Below are links to the aforementioned documents, if you require any further information please contact FRSA HQ via our website  or telephone – 01953 455005.

Kind regards
Steve Hornby
