Fire Minister writes to all firefighters in England
The Fire Minister, Penny Mordaunt MP, has for the last two weeks written to all firefighters in England covering such aspects as progressing an independent review of conditions of service for all fire and rescue staff (excluding pay and pensions). The terms of reference for the review are available on our website.
The ‘Fitness Working Group’ is in the throes of being setup and will include all major stakeholders. As soon as we are aware of the terms of reference for the group we will advise members accordingly.
All of the relevant correspondence is available on our website.
RDS appliance availability
Following the publication of our recent RDS survey, we are keen to maintain momentum in raising awareness of the ongoing problem of appliance availability within the RDS.
All too often we are witnessing poor practice in terms of recruitment and retention of RDS staff by FRS, which is placing even more pressure on those already providing availability on station. In addition to the feedback from our survey, we are interested to know if your station is struggling to keep your appliance(s) on the run, the reasons why (usually low numbers and/or lack of skills; OiC, BA etc.) and what if anything your local FRS is doing to overcome the issue.
All responses will remain confidential but will be collated anonymously and used as evidence to demonstrate the depth of the problem.
If you have examples of good as well as bad practices we would be interested to hear from you.
