During recent months there has been a number of consultation documents issued from central government regarding the new Pension Scheme 2015, which is due to be implemented in April 2015 for all serving firefighters (excluding those with protected rights).
As part of the consultations we have expressed our concern to the government, that their offer, made available in June 2013, had been withdrawn and replaced with less favourable terms relating to actuarial reduction rates for anyone who retires aged between 55 and 57.
The purpose of this bulletin is to make you aware that through our discussions with the Fire Minister, Brandon Lewis MP, the original June 2013 offer has now been put back on the table (see letter to all CFOs and Fire Authority Chairs).
This is a credit to those who have continued to work over recent months and demonstrates that using a modern approach to industrial relations, whereby the ‘power of argument‘ to forward our aims and beliefs, is of great benefit of our members.
We will continue with this approach and update members accordingly.
