Fire Minister intervenes over Armed Forces issue

The RFU welcomes the stance being taken by the Fire Minister, Brandon Lewis MP, regarding the employment of Armed Forces personnel as Retained/On-Call firefighters across the country.

Currently Cambridgeshire FRS have a policy not to employ Armed Forces personnel as Retained/On-Call firefighters and recently dismissed such an employee for this very reason. After research it would appear that Cambs FRS is the only FRS in the UK with such a policy with other services actively welcoming Armed Forces personnel into the role.
