In March 2024, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MWWFRS) and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service (NWFRS) agreed with the Welsh Government with the need to better understand the progress of improvements to organisational culture in each service. The proposal formed the basis of a written statement by the then Deputy Minister for Social Partnership, Hannah Blythyn MS. These reports have now been published (Mid and West – North Wales).

As with all other reports looking at fire and rescue service culture, they make disappointing and at times disturbing, reading.

We have written to both services offering our support to the service in addressing the issues that have been raised and the recommendations made.

Working together we hope that we can build a forward looking, robust and diverse fire and rescue service in Wales, for the benefit of both firefighters and the communities they serve.
