Press Statement - Bicester Motion Incident

It is with immense sadness and a profound sense of loss that I write on behalf of the Fire and Rescue Services Association, following the tragic events at Bicester Motion in Oxfordshire on Thursday, 15 May 2025.

We are devastated to learn that two brave firefighters have lost their lives while responding to a major fire at the historic former RAF Bicester site. These were individuals who, like so many in our profession, answered the call without hesitation, putting the safety of others before their own. Tragically, a member of the public also lost their life, and our thoughts are with all the families and loved ones affected by this heart-breaking incident.

Two further firefighters remain in hospital with serious injuries, we extend our best wishes in the hope of a full recovery, and our thoughts are with their families, and their colleagues during this incredibly difficult time. We are in close contact with Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and stand ready to offer whatever support we can to all those impacted.

Events like this are a stark reminder of the dangers our members face every day. The courage, commitment, and selflessness demonstrated by those who responded to the incident at Bicester Motion embodies the very best of our service. They made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, and their bravery will never be forgotten.

On behalf of the FRSA, I extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen. We mourn alongside them and honour their memory. We will continue to support our members and advocate for the safety and welfare of all who serve in our fire and rescue services.
